After a long time, a new "Monthly Contest" is starting next month!

This time with 3 categories:

  • Best Game
  • Best Tutorial
  • Best Code

How to participate?

You participate by posting an entry in the current thread, e.g. “Monthly Contest: December 2012”. For every new contest I will open a new thread. Each Contest begins on 1st day of the month at 00:00:01 AM Central European summer time("CEST") and ends on the last day of the month at 11:59:59 PM CEST.

An entry should consist of:

  1. Download link to game application (submitting source code is necessary for code- and tutorial-entries, for games it is a plus)
  2. Game Description
  3. 2-3 Screenshots

And please mention the category in which you want to submit your application.

1. Download link to application
Develop a playable game/ tutorial application using the Delta Engine. Post a download link to the application.

2. Game Description
Describe the game/ tutorial in a few sentences.

3. Screenshots
2-3 from the game/ tutorial.

Prizes

There will be 3 Winners, one in each category.
We will announce the winner in each category at the beginning of the next month.

Every winner in each category gets prizes with a value of over $300 each:

  • Delta Engine Basic+ License for 12 months, value $180
  • $120 Prize Money (to your PayPal account)
  • Limited Edition Delta Engine pocket lamp

Rules

Each participant needs a Delta Engine Account (which is free) and will be judged on the usefulness for the Delta Engine community. A winner cannot participate again for 12 months. It is allowed to resubmit in case you did not win yet. And it is up to you when you want to submit or if you want to share your game, source code, tutorial link, etc. to others early or later in the month.

Good Luck!

I got some questions about the contest in general.

First, I want to participate and I have some released tutorials which are written for 0.9.5. Can I use them and still participate or does the tutorials have to get written for 0.9.6? If yes, it will be a bit complicated to participate because 0.9.6 isn't really much stuff to actually write about :)
Second, do I have to include a executable with the demo app for this tutorial or does the tutorial itself suffice?
Third, in case that I win, can I not participate in all 3 contests for 12 months or only for all sections where I won (i.e if I win tutorial contest then I cannot participate in another one for 12 months but still can participate in game contest for example)
Fourth, how can I participate with an tutorial? Should I do steps 1-3 or is it sufficient if I post a link to the tutorial and add a description?

That's some questions but when they are cleared, I'm able to participate so please answer me :)

Hi Internetfreak,

1. No (Use 0.9.6)
2. Yes (You have to include an .exe, not just a link to the tutorial itself).
3. No (You cannot participate in any category for the next 12 month if you win in a certain category)
4. This is already answered in Answer 2.

Hope this helps Smile.

Yup, you can submit whatever you want, but it should be "useful" (see Rules) and currently only v0.9.6 (Milestone 1 or 2) stuff would be useful for other users. In a tutorial no code or executable is required, but again, it would not be very useful without anything (screenshots, code examples, etc.). Since Kirsten is evaluating as well, she wants obviously something to see on screen Cool
thanks 1 user thanked Benjamin for this useful post.

So that really means, I have to write new stuff to participate? That's as I said a bit complicated because I currently have no idea and since 0.9.6 isn't really much to use (it's only the first relase of many ;) ), I will have my trouble to write something cool.
I also got an really good tutorials which is quite young (not long before 0.9.6 was announced) but ok, if I can't use it, I will try to do something to still be able to participate^^

You don't have to, but obviously your chances are better if you do "something useful".

Again, just do it and it will be good, don't focus so much on asking meta-questions. If you need help with anything in v0.9.6, writing your tutorial, creating a game, just ask. We are here to help! Smile

Just one question: For participating at the "Best Code"-Contest, can I also submit project templates? If yes, then I already have something in mind :)
But, how should I do it with the screenshots? I probably cannot submit more than one screenshot because it will be something basic because delta currently doesn't allow complex things :)

Just make a screenshot of it, so others can understand what it is all about. Not sure what your project template would be a about. There are already project templates in the Tools directory.

It's me again with a new question. Can I also participate with code which could be useful for delta but doesn't really contain any stuff which is coming from Delta? I have something in mind which could be useful for delta, if it gets part of the engine but it doesn't depend on code from the delta engine because it is more or less independent from any project (you can implement it where you want and it will be still useful)

Yes, why not .. but you still will be evaluated based on usefulness as it says in the rules.

Ok, that sounds good. I'm sure it should be useful, at least I hope so :)
Well then, I'll probably start today so we can have some results in a few days.
